10th girl, 15, assaulted, killed by four rogues

Vizianagaram : In a gory incident, a 10th girl, 15, was subjected to mass sexual assault and killed by four persons in Vizianagaram district of AP. The incident took place on Friday and her body was fished out of a lake on Saturday. The police have arrested the four culprits.

The 10th girl Miriyala Indu, daughter of Srinivasa Rao and Satyavati in Reddiahvalasa village in Bobbili Mandalam, was forcibly taken away by the culprits Friday afternoon while she was going back to the school on he cycle after lunch at home. 

The girl goes to school pedaling her cycle 2.5 Km away at nearby Gadelavalasa village in Sitanagaram Mandalam daily. Friday morning, she went to school but she came back for lunch after the morning session. This is her daily routine. But she didn’t return home in the evening on Friday.  

The parents came to Gadelavalasa and inquired with the locals. One P. Achyuth told them he saw Pothala Sankara Rao, one of the culprits, talking to her at a wine shop. The parents them met the village elders and complained. When the village elders interrogated Sankara Rao, he confessed to the crime.

He said he and three others forcibly took her to the nearby mango garden and sexually assaulted her. Fearing she would reveal their identify ,they strangled her to death. They then threw the body into the lake. They four youth were reportedly in an inebriated condition when they resorted to this crime.

Along with three other culprits Songala Lokesh, Chukka Rambabu and Kodeti Raviteja were arrested by the police for their involvement in the crime. They were booked under several sections. Police are awaiting the autopsy report.
