Akun Sabharwal cancels his 10-day leave

Hyderabad:In an unexpected development, Excise Enforcement chief and IPS officer Akun Sabharwal has canceled his leave to concentrate on the investigation into the drug racket his team of officials has busted ten days ago.

Reports that  Akun Sasbharwal will go on 10-day leave from July 16 have triggered speculation that Government has interfered in the probe into the drug racket. But he denied such involvement and said Government has been fully supporting the probe. “I applied for leave before the drug racket was busted,” he said , adding he wanted to take leave to attend to some rituals following the death of his mother.

However, due to the seriousness of the probe into the drug racket, Akun Sabharwal has cancelled his leave and wanted to go whole hog into the case. The Government agreed to cancellation of leave. 

“In view of the seriousness of the situation, I cancelled my leave to take the probe to its logical conclusion,” he said in a message sent to media persons on Saturday. Earlier in the day, Akun Sabharwal held a high level meeting with senior Narcotics officers from Bangalore and Delhi on how to take forward the probe into the Hyderabad based drug mafia’s connections in other cities.

Akun Sasbharwal is a dynamic and honest officer and known for his strict policy implementation in whatever department he heads. Two years ago, he reportedly declared to the Central Government that his family doesn’t own any immovable properties.

BJYM activists lay seize to Excise Office

Meanwhile, BJYM activists laid seize to the Excise central office here on Saturday and demanded thorough probe into the drugs case.

They alleged that 15 more Tollywood bigwigs are involved in the drug racket and the Government is protecting them under pressure. “The Tollywood bigwigs involved in the drugs racket are putting pressure on the Government to ensure that their names are not leaked to the media,” alleged BJYM leaders.
