Hyderabad: Kushaiguda Police of Hyderabad have registered a case under Sections 354 and 420 of IPC against the Datta Peetam Baba Sri Rama Sarma after a 40-year old lady devotee lodged complaint. She is a resident of HMT Nagar.

The lady devotee told the police that Sri Ram Sarma drugged her and tried to sexually assault her during the course of a Puja. Police said that the woman came in contact with Sri Rama Sarma when he was working as a Pujari in a temple at Basheerbagh.

“Her health was not good. When she formally approached him for remedies for curing her illnesses, he promised her that she would improve her health if some special Pujas were performed.  He then collected lakhs of rupees from her in the name of Pujas,” said the police.

He proposed that Puja should be done in her house and asked her to send her husband and children away during Puja time. Once they are in Puja room, he tried to sexually assault her. She resisted and then called her husband. Sri Rama Sarman is now on the run.

“I went to his house at Kushaiguda to question him but his mother and wife assaulted me. He collected lakhs of rupees from me in the name of conducting Pujas and cheated me,” she told reporters at the police station. Nacharam circle Inspect of Police Vital Reddy told journalists that a case has been registered and investigation is on.
