Indian student Ria Patel killed in US accident

Hyderabad: An Indian American student was killed in a road accident in Minneapolis in the US on Sunday, the American Bazaar reported.

Her 21-year old boy friend was arrested two days after the accident for abandoning her on the road and fleeing the accident spot leaving her to her fate.

Ria Patel, a student of St Thomas University , was going in her car along with her boy friend Micheal Lawrence Campbell when the accident took place. Police said Campbell was fully drunk and rammed the car into a traffic post. Ria Patel received serious head injuries.

Soon after the accident, he left her in the car and fled the scene. Police attended on her and took her  to hospital after giving first aid. But she died two days later while undergoing treatment in the hospital. She was identified as Ria Patel only on Thursday.

Police picked up Campbell on Wednesday from his residence at Wright County. He was arrested and sent to jail. 

Ria Patel’s friends organised condolence meeting at St  Thomas University on Thursday and the meeting was well attended by her friends and university officials. 

Her family and friends have set up a Foundation in her memory to campaign against drunk driving and its consequences. Meanwhile, friends launched fund collection campaign to raise funds for the foundation on the GoFund me page.

As against a goal of 20 K , the page has already raised a fund of $ 15,656 at the time of publishing this story.
