Jagan wants CBI probe into Yerpedu accident

Munagalapalem, (Chittoor dist): Demanding a CBI inquiry into the Yerpedu mishap, Leader of Opposition, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said that it is the sand mafia operating in connivance with official machinery responsible for the accident.

The illegal sand mining has been carried out by top political leaders operating in tandem with official machinery and the truck that killed 15 persons and injured over 20 belongs to the same group, he said after meeting the victim families here on Sunday.

“This is the eighth such incident in the area and 100th in the district. Earlier CPM leader Madhu and YSRCP leaders had caught the illegal sand transport of 100 trucks and no official was ready to receive the complaint showing the deep connections of the sand mafia,” he said.

“This has to be checked immediately and people should cooperate in tracking down the kingpin. A CBI inquiry would bring facts to the fore. This is not a simple accident case but there is a conspiracy angle.  Many times, when people went to complain against local TDP leaders Dhandanjaya Naidu and Chiranjeevi Naidu, police station gates were closed down.  Police did not allow people to come in to lodge complaint. This raises many doubts as to why officials did not want the people to lodge complaint and why the truck running among people only when they had gathered at  the spot. Why is the government supporting Dhananjaya Naidu and Chieranjeevi Naidu?” Jaganmohan Reddy asked.

This should be investigated thoroughly to bring out facts. While illegal sand mining is carried out unabated in the district, it is all the more rampant in Kalahasti.  Most of the deceased persons in the mishap are those who went to police station to complain against the illegal sand mining of the two TDP leaders, he observed.
