Hyderabad: A Telugu MS Graduate, Vamsi Reddy, was shot dead by an unidentified white man in the USA Saturday night, media reports said here on Sunday. His room mates called his sister in Hyderabad and informed her of his killing. Vamsi’s parents are residents of Vangapahad village in Hasanparty Mandal of Warangal district in Telangana.
Vamsi Reddy Mamidala recently completed his MS in Computer Sciences in the Silicon Valley. He had been working part time in a stores in San Francisco , California after completion of his MS course. He stays in a room along with some of his Telugu friends.
Last night, when he was returning to his room after completing his working hours in the stores, the Telugu man’s car was reportedly stopped by a white man. The local white man, a drug addict, reportedly abused him and shot him dead point blank with his gun. The gunman also took away his wallet. He then ran away from the scene.
The killing is seen as racial murder in the backdrop of hatred spreading in the US against foreigners following its President Donald Trump’s slogan America First and his eccentric policies. This is the first hate killing of a foreigner in the US after Trump took over as President. Reports also said the local police are yet to book a murder case.
Spoke to parents two days ago
Vamsi Reddy’s father Mohan Reddy told reporters that Vamsi spoke to him over phone two days ago and talked of dwindling job opportunities in the US. He revealed he asked his son to come back to India and not unduly worry about the job there. “Unfortunately, this has happened,” he said in sobs.The family is distraught with the killing of Vamsi Reddy. Relatives are unable to console the parents.
Vamsi did his B. Tech at VIST (Vstsalya Institute of Science and Technology ) at Bhongir in the then undivided Nalgonda district and left for the US in 2014.Email this article to your friend / family member
